Who is Standard Time Jazz?

Standard Time Jazz is a Kitchener-Waterloo based jazz trio consisting of piano, bass, and drums. We also regularly provide saxophone, trumpet, male of female vocalists...or virtually any other instrument you would like. We perform at weddings, anniversaries, parties and corporate events.

What type of music do you play?

We will tailor our music to your event. Generally, we play romantic jazz for weddings and classic jazz standards for parties, but are capable of playing virtually any song. We also play classical music and pop songs.
Please see our Songs List Page.

Do you play other types of music besides Jazz?

Yes. Although Jazz Standards is our main thing we can also accomodate playing pop-rock music with full vocals for the after dinner dance portion of your event. We can also provide your choice of classical pieces for your wedding ceremony.

Where is the band from?

The band is located in KW, but we perform throughout the surrounding areas including Cambridge, Hamilton, Milton, Woodstock, London and Guelph. We will normally travel to any location within a one hour drive of K-W.

What kind of experience does the band have?

Each member of the band is an accomplished professional jazz musician with many years of experience performing.

How much do you charge?

The cost of the band depends on a few factors, the length of the performance and the size of band you need. Please email us, call or use our Request Form for a quote. Please provide as much information as you can. We will get back to you as soon as possible with a quote.

Do you play wedding ceremonies?

Yes, the band does play wedding ceremonies. We can perform a mix of classical music, romantic jazz, and pop songs for your wedding ceremony.

How will the band dress?

Unless otherwise instructed, the members of the band will be dressed in suit and tie.

How does set up work? When do you get to my event?

Generally we will arrive at the event 1 hour prior to the performance. We set up immediately (usually about 30 minutes) and then retreat until the performance should begin. This gives you the peace of mind that there won't be any commotion as your guests arrive.

When do you guys pack up?

We pack up immediately following the performance. Usually this does not disturb guests as by this time the evening is well underway. We also try to find alternate exits for removing equipment and stay quiet throughout this time. If you need to make special arrangements for us to stay longer, please don't hesitate to ask.

Do you take any breaks?

Yes, usually we take approximately 10 to 15 minutes for every hour of performance. If you have any special requests we will gladly accommodate.

Do I need to supply anything for the band?

The band will supply all their own equipment, including instruments, amplifiers, extension cords, etc. You only need to provide the space and at least one electrical outlet.

At what volume will the band play at?

The band will generally keep the volume at a comfortable level, one at which normal conversation can be enjoyed. Since there are so many factors involved (room size, number of guests, etc.) please let us know if we should adjust our volume.

I've decided to hire you for my event. What next?

Once you have decided to hire us, email correspondance between us will confirm all the details. These emails will outline the performance details, schedule, payments and any other pertinent information.

How does payment work? What forms of payment to you accept?

At the time of the confirming email, a regular cheque covering the deposit is sufficient. The remaining payment can be made either prior to the performance or at the end of the performance by cash or cheque.

Do we need to meet in person to finalize any details?

Usually this isn't necessary, as any communication can be done by email and phone. However, if you find it important to meet first, arrangements can be definitely be made.
